Mailboxes for New Builds: Compliant from the Plans
For new construction projects, the mailbox should be planned before the first shovel hits the ground. Integrating it into the initial plans avoids last-minute corrections, poorly sized niches, and warnings from La Poste after residents move in. We provide Postnorm requirements, custom-design the mailbox bank, then manufacture and install it.
Postnorm Technical Sheet: Fabrication + Installation ยท Swiss Made
Four families of rules govern mailboxes in new buildings in Switzerland. Anticipating these at the execution dossier stage guarantees compliant delivery and mail distribution from day one.

Why Early Planning Pays Off
No Rework After Construction: A poorly sized niche or inaccessible location is difficult to correct once the facade is finished. Planning the mailbox from the blueprints avoids damage and unforeseen costs.
Mail Delivery from Move-in: A compliant and labeled mailbox bank upon reception means mail is delivered from day one, no warnings from La Poste, and no unhappy calls from new occupants.
Architectural Integration: Stainless steel, anthracite, or matching the stairwell color: a custom mailbox bank blends seamlessly into the hall or facade instead of being an afterthought.
Complete Technical Dossier: For architects, we document Postnorm, SIA 500, and SN EN 13724 upon request, directly usable in the specifications.

FAQ
When should the mailbox be planned for a new project?
From the planning phase. The mailbox dictates masonry work for walls, niche dimensions in the hall, and installation height. Addressing it upstream avoids costly corrections upon delivery and unpleasant surprises when the postman makes his first rounds. We provide Postnorm dimensions and requirements to integrate directly into the execution dossier.
What standards must be met for new construction?
The Swiss postal standard (Postnorm, OPO Art. 73-75 + Annex 1) is the reference that binds La Poste: two compartments, minimum internal dimensions, precise location. For collective buildings and adapted housing, SIA 500 (accessibility) is added. Upon request, we also document compliance with the European standard SN EN 13724 for demanding specifications.
What happens if the mailbox isn't compliant upon delivery?
La Poste may refuse to deliver to a non-compliant mailbox and, after warning, suspend home delivery (OPO Art. 31 para. 2 lit. c). In a new building, this means no mail delivered for new occupants right after moving in โ a visible defect easily avoidable by planning ahead.
Do you work with architects and developers?
Yes. We provide a Postnorm technical sheet to integrate into the plans, design custom mailbox banks adapted to the hall or facade, and deliver the installation labeled and ready for use. A single point of contact, from the planning phase to installation.
